The city of ember is a city that has no light and the whole city is made of concrete. They get their light from lightbulbs runnimg on a huge generator below the city that runs on a huge river. In school kids have to pick what job they will have out of a bag when they are 12. Doon and Ellie picked but they switched jobs. Now Ellie is a messanger and Doon works on the pipes underground. He wants to fix the problems of the city.Ellie is really happy with her job. She really wanted to be one. Her grandmother is losing her memory.
